So, I'm a big NASCAR fan, and I don't really keep track much on Indy. I at least knew the names of several drivers, including Dan Wheldon, the same driver that won an exciting Indy 500 earlier in the year. I was shocked to learn that he passed away today after being involved in a Indy car crash in Las Vegas today. I am kind of at a loss for words.... I guess I realized how dangerous racing was, but usually when you see big wrecks like that or in NASCAR they just walk away. If you see the video of the wreck (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYrhaLamZYA) you can hear the reporters just kind of shrugging it off. I'm not trying to diss announcers, because they, like us, just assumed that nothing was wrong, except for destroyed cars and debris.
What happens next? I don't know. I guess they will once again race next week, but I'm sure this will bring into question the safety of racing at those speeds in open cars. Will things get changed? Hopefully yes, but I'm not completely sure what changes are needed. Anyways, I plan on keeping Dan Wheldon, his family, and his colleagues in my thoughts and prayers this week. -0 for 365

Here We Go!
Ok, so I'm gonna start my blog by talking a little about myself. (not too much for you stalker like people out there though) Pretty obviously I'm a sports fan. I'll watch pretty much any sport and if your a big sports fan, then you know that we all have opinions. I'm not gonna water anything down, and I don't expect anyone else to if they comment (if anyone even is looking at this blog). I'll hopefully blog pretty often, but on a minimum of once weekly unless this gets pretty much no interest at all and then this won't last a week. I'll pretty much talk about what interests me in current news, so might be headlines, some might not be. Anyways down to the first story.....
So in Philly the other night, there was a video (http://youtu.be/BykMXtiKxJ0) shown in Flyer stadium showing hockey players standing up to cancer. Because it had rival players such as Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews and others, the fans booed the video..... How classless can Philly fans get? Seriously, this is a video of people standing up to a serious disease that has killed millions of people, and they're booing? That would be like if Sidney Crosby stopped a building from blowing up, but the people threw him off the top of it for being a Penguin. I guess the city of Brotherly Love needs to work on the love part....
Another big event that has happened this week is the NBA announcing the cancellation of the first two weeks of the NBA season. I personally am a fan of the lockout and I gotta say I'm glad it happened. I have many problems with the NBA, as such I don't watch much of it, and I am more inclined to college hoops. One, is that I do not agree with the lottery system of drafting. Anyone wonder why the Lions were 0-16 a couple years ago, but now their a solid 5-0 team? Its because they got good draft picks.
Let's take a look at their first round draft picks since 2008, the 0-16 season, and see what we get: 2009: Matthew Stafford, Brandon Pettigrew. 2010: Ndamukong Suh, Jahvid Best. 2011: Nick Fairley. As you can see all of these players have turned into big parts of this Lions team, and for that reason NFL is always changing. Past decade of NFC championships, 10 different teams.
With the NBA's lottery it's luck if you get the first overall pick (I guess they still do put more in for worse teams) which makes it too easy for bad teams to stay bad. Another thing I disagree with is that it's too easy to get around the salary cap. How did Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh all end up on the same team????? Maybe they all settled for lesser pay checks, but with an ego like Bronbron's I doubt it. The Refs, oh the refs.... Are they blind, or are they just paid to fix games for the NBA? They favor too many big name players while calling fouls on minor things for the lesser know players. And no, I don't think the lockout will fix much of any of these things, but I felt like ranting about it and maybe, just maybe in the future some of these problems will be fixed. Sadly, it seems that the only thing the lockout will fix is the distribution of money.
